What brought me here? |
I was born and raised in a mixed-race family in Guatemala City. The social location of my family could be described as both "culture rich and money poor." My parents were exceptional, self-educated individuals: my father was an accomplished artist, and my mother a gifted seamstress. My brother and I are first-generation college students, and I was fortunate to receive certain academic opportunities unavailable to my friends and classmates. Opportunities, such as scholarships, are frequently provided to compensate for glaring faults within the education system — faults I have repeatedly witnessed in many countries I have lived in or visited. As a Fulbright Scholar, I completed my graduate studies in the United States. My training was primarily situated in a positivist framework. As a result of the populations I was working with, I became interested in exploring postmodernist theories and frameworks to further examine and challenge uncontested notions of reality, truth, and universals as they relate to inequities in early childhood education. |
A bit more about me
I love learning and read voraciously across genres and fields. I am getting back into trail running! I love cooking and exploring new flavors. I'm fortunate my partner in life is a trained chef. We love cooking, but we especially love eating! |
